39th Annual Groundhog Run Goes Virtual

For more than three decades Groundhog Run has supported children with rare and complex disabilities to receive life-changing therapeutic and educational services at Ability KC. Because of the success of this event each year Ability KC has been able to expand programming, serve more children than any other time in our history and build on a legacy of expertise that continues to move our mission forward. This year, in the wake of 2020, the support of our Groundhog Run community is more important than ever to ensure the children served at Ability KC reach new heights that many never dreamed possible.

The challenges of 2020 have affected races and runners across the country in different ways. Like many races in our community, we have made the difficult decision to move Groundhog Run to a completely virtual event. While the 2021 event will look different than any other Groundhog Run in our 39-year history, we are thrilled to partner with Genesis Health Clubs to ensure Groundhog Run continues to be one of Kansas City’s most unique charitable events! The Groundhog Run Virtual Challenge is more than just a virtual run. Gus, our Chief Groundhog, will be coming above ground to bring creative weekly challenges to this year’s event – making it unlike any other virtual event in the community and one you won’t want to miss.

In a year marked by constant challenges we have rallied together with our community to overcome some of the greatest obstacles many of us have ever faced. Inspired by the children who benefit from Groundhog Run and the fierceness of the more than 4,000 runners and dozens of sponsors who join us each year our weekly challenges will embody the strength, flexibility and ability to adapt needed to rise from the pandemic together, more united than ever.
