Syllables &
Affixes Program

This program is developed for children ages 11-14 who have difficulty with reading after a neurological event such as a stroke or brain injury. This summer program will address complex spelling patterns within multisyllabic words and word meanings through the study of prefixes and suffixes. This approach is developmental in nature and will provide each child with individualized time to work on their specific needs as well as the opportunity to practice new skills with peers. Homework and ideas for practice will be provided each day.

Developing your child’s reading & spelling by learning:

Inflected endings
Ex: -ed, -ing

Less common consonant patterns
Ex: gh pronounced as “F” sound

Syllable structure patterns
Ex: diner vs dinner
