STROKE

Rehabilitation after surviving a stroke does not end after the individual has completed an inpatient program at a hospital. Outpatient day program therapy services at Ability KC allow the individual and family to transition from inpatient care to home while continuing to receive intensive, individualized services at Ability KC. Ability KC offers value added services along with the day program for individuals and families including nursing, case management, social work, psychological services, recreation therapy and education services to help patients achieve success.

Ability KC therapists are trained with Interactive Metronome, EKSO Exoskeleton System, Vital Stimulation, Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) Cycles and Bioness H200. Many Ability KC therapists are also certified in the use of these pieces of rehabilitation equipment.

Through the intensive outpatient therapy services offered at Ability KC, therapists work with children, adolescents and adults who have survived a stroke to achieve their greatest abilities at home, work, school and in the community.

Nursing

Nursing includes medication management, direction and monitoring of medical concerns and physical assistance or supervision.

Case Management

Case Management serves as a liaison between the insurance provider, medical team and the patient.

Social Work

The social work team works as a liaison with the patient, family and medical team to provide resources and education for a safe return to work, school or the community.

Education

Ability KC outpatient medical rehabilitation programs utilize an on staff teacher to work as a liaison between families and schools including tutoring, school re-entry and advocacy. Ability KC has worked closely with 20 school districts and numerous schools within those districts to help children and adolescents be successful in reaching their educational goals.

Recreational Therapy

Recreational Therapy allows both groups and individuals to participate in leisure activities as well as community outings.

Psychology

Psychology services include a neuropsychological assessment, individual and group counseling for both individuals and families.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy includes aquatic therapy and addresses endurance, feeding, orthotic and prosthetic training, self-care skills, swallowing, tone management, upper extremity function, vision skills.

Physical Therapy

Physical Therapy includes aquatic therapy and addresses balance, endurance, flexibility, lower extremity function, mobility, orthotic and prosthetic training, strengthening, tone management, vestibular rehabilitation.

Speech Therapy

Speech Therapy for articulation, attention, auditory comprehension, cognition, communication, feeding, problem solving, reading comprehension, social skills, swallowing.
