Employment Resources Navigator (COTA)

Full job description

Under general direction of the Return-to-Work Program Lead, the Employment Resource Navigator (ERN) supports job adaptations and skills development for individuals experiencing medical and/or intellectual disabilities employed at Ability KC Industries center-based employment facility as well as for medical rehabilitation patients participating in Ability KC’s Return-to-Work program. The ERN assesses and supports employee functional capacity to perform tasks related to job assignment and completion, as well as related equipment and/or assistive technology needs. The ERN will be responsible for the following:

1) Implement Job Performance, Skills Observation, and Interest Review:

  • Administered by the ERN to all Jackson County employees
  • Completed at time of hire and/or as identified through screening and every year or as requested through the employee or the team (i.e. when may be identified through a new job)
  • Timeline is informed by the results of the Ability KC Industries Interest screen

2) Conduct Job Performance, Skills Observation and Interest Review to include the following areas:

  • Interests outside of work;
  • Job satisfaction;
  • Workplace observation of functional skills;
  • Communication style;
  • General observation of: fine motor skills; handwriting; visual motor skills; visual perceptual skills; motor movements and motor planning; sensory processing including sensory aversions;
  • Work/Career Goals;
  • Adaptations identified to increase productivity; and
  • Recommendations for referral for job development/customized employment

3) Complete Occupational Profile (pictorial version), completed as deemed appropriate by the ERN

4) Provide Soft Skills education and training group as follows:

  • Coaching provided by the Employment Resource Navigator (ERN)
  • All employees will be encouraged to participate and attendance will be recorded
  • Conducted monthly with rotating skills calendar to include:
  • Active Listening and Listening skills
  • Communication and getting along with others
  • Money-wise decision making
  • Personal hygiene/appearance
  • General personal hygiene
  • Positive personal skills and qualities of a good employee
  • Work ethics
  • Internet and cyber security
  • Health & Safety

5)Perform other duties as needed.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

Minimum Associate’s Degree in occupational therapy
Current NBCOT and Missouri professional licenses in occupational therapy.

EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of 3 years experience as a therapist or within other rehabilitation field, and 2 years experience implementing direct individual care services. Demonstrated ability to assist in program development and involvement with special projects and representation of Ability KC. Good interpersonal, organizational and leadership skills and the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing required.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

Current state professional license or license eligible, as appropriate to profession. Good interpersonal, organizational and leadership skills and the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing required. CPR certification or eligible.

Current Driver’s License required.

Routine contacts include facility staff, , vocational rehabilitation, service coordinators, physicians, individuals/clients, students, visitors, physician office staff, individual’s family members/support system, insurance companies, employers, community agencies, and equipment/supply vendors.

This position shall have access only to individual or client Protected Health Information on a need-to-know basis (only that Protected Health Information that is required to perform the job duties described in this job description).

TOOLS & EQUIPMENT:

The tools & equipment required to perform the essential functions of this job include individual support tools, computer and office equipment.
