Dwayne's Story

Twenty-two years ago Dwayne came to Ability KC for the first time for assistive technology to open doors for computer access at his job. Through the years Dwayne has continued to return to Ability KC as technology evolves and advances for new communication devices. Dwayne has cerebral palsy that affects the use of his arms, legs and his ability to be understood when speaking.

With the use of his communication device he can initiate conversation with others. This helps him be more independent at home and in the community. The therapists in the ACCT program have also helped Dwayne with computer access. He uses a head mouse which is operated by a small reflective dot on the bridge of his glasses to move a cursor. These devices also allow Dwayne to successfully operate his independent business making greeting cards from home.
