Emmaus was diagnosed with Tuberous Sclerosis Complex just before her third birthday. This rare disease causes tumors to grow in vital organs including the brain and heart. It also causes Epilepsy and developmental delays. At three years old she was also diagnosed with Autism. Emmaus then started the therapeutic preschool program at Ability KC. Her goals were walking, talking and learning positive behaviors.
Emmaus began to enjoy social interaction with her peers for the first time. She also took her first steps in therapy at Ability KC. Things that had been overwhelming like scanning a room to find an object, knowing routines and rhythms are now possible because of the ABA program. Emmaus’ mom said she felt like the therapists and staff not only met the needs of Emmaus but the needs of the family as a whole.
