Under the general direction of the Driving Program Coordinator the instructor provides driver training of behind-the-wheel driving skills to clients in the Driving Program, keeps records related to client training accurate and up to date. In addition, the Instructor arranges maintenance and upkeep of program vehicles. The instructor may also teach classroom driver education if necessary.
Education:
- For this position a minimum of an associates degree and completion of course to become a driver educator is required.
Experience:
- Two years of experience as driver educator or two years experience in neuro-rehabilitation is preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Licensure/Certification:
- Valid driver’s license is required. If degree is in a therapy-related area must be registered or licensed by the state.
- CPR certification or eligible.
- Working knowledge of traffic rules and regulations for the states of Missouri and Kansas.
- Working knowledge of vehicle equipment both original vehicle equipment and adapted equipment.
Routine Contacts:
Routine contacts include facility staff, physicians, patients, case managers, students, visitors, physician office staff, patient’s family members/support system, insurance companies, employers, community organizations, and equipment/supply vendors.
